What is iLASIK?
LASIK (laser-assisted intrastromal in-situ keratomileusis) is a laser vision correction procedure that reduces the amount of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism that an individual has.
iLASIK is today’s most innovative Laser Vision Correction procedure and has been used to treat more eyes than any other laser vision treatment available today. It combines the world’s most advanced vision correction advancements into one safe and effective procedure that truly personalizes your vision correction based on your precise, individual vision needs.
The iLASIK Procedure combines two advanced lasers with a 3-D mapping process in one integrated, bladefree procedure. The technology behind the iLASIK Procedure helps physicians take more of their patients beyond 20/20 vision.
How LASIK Works:
To begin with, 3-D mapping captures your personalized refractive signature which, like a fingerprint, is unique to each of your eyes and provides the customized correction needed to personalize your iLASIK treatment.
Next, a very thin, precise flap of corneal tissue is created with a femtosecond laser.
This flap is gently folded back, and your personalized iLASIK procedure is performed.
Only the iLASIK Procedure combines the technology that persuaded NASA to allow laser vision correction for their astronauts.
What Do We Mean By "All-Laser" LASIK?
The first step in the iLASIK procedure is the IntraLase method. The IntraLase Method is a 100% blade-free approach to creating your LASIK flap — the thin flap of tissue that the doctor creates to perform your LASIK procedure.
With the IntraLase Method, tiny pulses of laser light, a quadrillionth of a second each, pass harmlessly through the outer portion of your cornea and form a uniform layer of microscopic bubbles just beneath the surface of your eye. The IntraLase flap creation process takes about 15 to 20 seconds per eye. Your doctor then easily lifts the flap to apply the LASIK treatment.

Advanced CustomVue Treatment
The second step in the iLASIK is the Advanced CustomVue Procedure. It begins with an individual vision evaluation using our WaveScan System which creates a map of your eyes’ unique imperfections. The Advanced CustomVue Procedure uses the digital information from that map to design a custom laser treatment for each of your eyes. This WaveScan map information is then transferred to the STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser. The laser uses this information to apply a cool laser beam that reshapes your cornea to create a new curvature and correct your vision. Clinical studies presented to the FDA show that the Advanced CustomVue Procedure can potentially produce better vision than is possible with glasses or contact lenses, and show that more patients were satisfied or very satisfied with their vision after the Advanced CustomVue Procedure than they were before with glasses or contact lenses.(AMO Development, LLC. CustomVue Procedure clinical trials submitted to the FDA; 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2007.)
